The Armenian Fencing Championship drew to a close at the Fencing Sports School of Olympic Reserve of Noragavit.
“In this championship the prize places have been taken by the front runners of this sport. After trainings the coaching staff will decide who from the winners will leave for the European Championship”, Secretary General of the Fencing Federation of Armenia Artash Madoyan said to ANOC press service.
After three days of competition the winners in the rapier event were declared Michael Hovhannisyan (1st place). Gevorg Harutyunyan (2nd place), Armen Dalakyan (3rd place) and Alex Azizyan (3rd place). Among girls Hasmik Aghababyab (1st place), Sona Barsamyan (2nd place), Arpine Atoyan (3rd place) and Calipse Torosyan (3rd place) became winners.
In the épée competition Levon Keropyan became Armenia’s champion. He was followed by Arsen Baghdasaryan (2nd place), Gevorg Harutyunyan (3rd place) and Artur Karapetyan (3rd place).
Previously, in the men’s competition the winners had been named Eduard Hovikyan, Razmik Vardanyan and Michael Ghazaryan and Arkadi Muradyan had shared the third place.
In the women’s épée competition Emma Poghosyan had come first, Svetlana Nazaryan – second and Naira Hamazaspyan and Marine Hakobyan – third.
This championship had brought together overall 115 athletes from Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor and Byureghavan.
