The Armenia team failed to win a medal at the European Team Chess Championship ended in Batumi, Georgia.
In the last, 9th, round the Armenia team won 3:1 Greece and placed 4th with 13 points. Levon Aronyan and Hrant Melkumyan had victories and Gabriel Sargsyan and Armenia’s current champion Arman Pashikyan ended their matches in a tie. Hayk Martirosyan also joined the European Championship as a member of the Armenia team.
Russia was crowned a European champion with 15 points. Ukraine and England entered the top 3 with 14 points each.
The Armenia women’s team lost 1.5:2.5 to Azerbaijan in the last round and placed 7th with 11 points. Lilit Mkrtchyan lost while Elina Danielyan, Maria Gevorgyan and Anna Sargsyan drew the games. Siranush Ghukasyan also performed in the European Championship as a member of the Armenia women’s team.
The Russia women’s team became a European champion scoring 16 points.
