The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee has unveiled the Games new robots. The Robot Project aims to make the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 the most innovative ever.
The new models of the robots have been developed by the Toyota Motors Corporation and are similar to Tokyo 2020 mascot. The mascot-type robots will welcome athletes and guests with human-like movements such as shaking hands and facial expressions at the Games venues.
Cameras mounted on the robots’ foreheads will allow them to recognise when people are nearby and to react to them.
Tokyo 2020 and Toyota are discussing a number of ways for the mascot robots to make the Games easier and more enjoyable for children.
Another robot will transmit sounds and images from Games locations to other robots at remote locations that will allow spectators to receive information from other venue.
The third model will be equipped with a camera and will give people who are unable to be physically present at Games a chance to attend virtually also allowing conversations between the two locations.
The last model which will be equipped with an automatic driving functionality will help to bring items thrown by athletes which will reduce both the amount of time needed to retrieve items and the amount of human support required at events.
