The members of the Armenia national basketball team and its head coach, Tigran Gyokchyan, have been awarded by the Minister of Youth and Sport Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.
All members of the team who were in the motherland were bestowed a title of international sports master and the head coach, Tigran Gyokchyan – a title of honorary worker of Physical Culture and Sports.
“It a big honor to achieve great success in such a short period of time. This is the whole team’s result,” Tigran Gyokchyan told the ANOC press service.
In the first game of the group stage of the European Championship for Small Countries the Armenia national basketball team won 83:64 the home team, Moldova’s team. In the second game the Armenian team was defeated 70:63 by Andorra’s team. In the last game of the group stage Tigran Gyokchyan’s alumni gained absolute advantage over the Welsh team (92:40).
In the semifinals Armenia won Ireland 74:60 in a tough and nice game.
In the final the Armenia national team took the initiative and winning 79:71 Andorra’s team became the winner of the European Championship for Small Countries from the first time of its participation.
