A wrestling tournament will be held at the Palace of Sports Olimp on May 17.  The tournament will be organized by world and European Greco-Roman wrestling current champion, Baku European Games winner, Russia’s representative Stepan Maryanyan.

The tournament will bring together titular wrestlers such as Olympic champion Davit Chakvetadze, 2013 world and European champion David Safaryan, Rio 2016 Olympic silver medalist Mihran Harutyunyan and Olympic silver medalist Aniuar Geduev.

David Safaryan told the ANOC press service about the format of the tournament.

“The tournament will be held in team format (one wrestler from each team). This tournament will be held annually to promote the popularization of wrestling in Krasnodar Krai.  It is planned to include 4 pairs of freestyle, 9 pairs of Greco-Roman and 5 pairs of grappling. Famous wrestlers who have any connection with Krasnodar Wrestling School will participate first of all. Also, the organizers have invited wrestlers from abroad to make the fights interesting for spectators. The tournament is expected to be attended by Aleksandr Karelin, Governor of Krasnodar Krai Veniamin Kondratyev, President of the Wrestling Federation of Russia Mikhail Mamiashvili and many others,”noted David Safaryan.
