The 2016 European Individual Women’s Chess Championship has kicked off in Mamaia, Romania.
Lilt Galoyan lost the first round to Germany’s Elisabath Paehtz. Another member of the Armenian team, Lilit Mkrtchyan, shared a point with Azerbaijani Turkan Mamedjarova. Armenia’s ruling champion Maria Gevorgyan started the championship with a defeat conceding to Russian Marina Nechaeva. Maria Kursova was the only Armenian representative to celebrate victory. She was playing black and gained advantage over Anastasia Sazonova.
The tournament will last from May 27 till June 8.
