Armenia Greco-Roman wrestling team member, first European Games silver medalist, Mihran Harutyunyan (66kg) captured gold at the 23rd Sergey Taraskin Memorial Tournament.
“I had 5 tough bouts. Especially it was difficult to concentrate on the tournament after getting an injury. In addition, it had passed nearly 4 months since the World Championship. The rivalry in this weight class was higher than expected. All the participants were masters of sports of international class from Ukraine, Belarus, Crimea and Uzbekistan. Only in the finals I could gain advantage over my opponent. I don’t regret of participating in this tournament as it was very useful for the preparation to the European Championship. There are also tournaments in the near future but the issue of participation will be decided by the coaching staff of the national team. I want to thank my personal coach, Ruben Tatulyan and the coaches, Aram Sargsyan and Samvel Gevorgyan. I dedicate this victory to my daughter, Monica”, said Harutyunyan in a conversation with ANOC press office.
At the International Memorial Tournament which was held on December 26-27 in Moscow, the Armenian wrestler came out in 71 weight class.
