Hakob Serobyan summed up the passing year and spoke about 2016 plans in a conversation with ANOC.
-Mr Serobyan, please, sum up the 2015 year?
-This year was really successful for us and we are very pleased. We have returned with medals from all tournaments we have taken part in. The results were higher than expected. We are very pleased with our guys. I hope it will be better next year. We are seriously preparing for the Olympics and hope to conquer medals
-The year was really successful for the gymnasts, however, did you face any gaps or problems?
-As for tournaments, we didn’t have any gaps and took part in all planned tournaments. Of course, without the support of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia we wouldn’t be able to implement all our plans. Our main problem still remains apparatus. This year the sports school was supplemented with a new apparatus and we were very happy but the rest apparatuses is old too. Recently the horizontal bar has been broken, thank God, there have been no injuries.
-Was the state financial support allocated for the Gymnastics Federation increased after Armenian gymnasts’ successful performances and a bronze medal at the World Championship?
-The sum allocated by the state has remained unchanged but I hope there will be changes soon. I personally met with the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, Hrachya Rostomyan and discussed the preparatory phase of those gymnasts who had won Rio 2016 qualifications. He expressed his readiness to help and support. I am sure that we’ll be given every chance to prepare for the Olympics in a better way.
-Mr Serobyan, how are you going to start 2016?
-Our main and important tournament is the Armenian Championship where the participants of the European Championship will be determined. We’ll join in the World Cup with four gymnasts, then will pass a training camp in Qatar and will come back to Yerevan. After ‘’Test Event’’ in Rio we’ll participate in the European Championship. And before the Olympics we are planning to participate in one more tournament.
