The coach of the Armenian men’s gymnastics team, Sos Sargsyan, summed up the Armenian Championship held at Albert Azaryan Sports School from March 12-14.
-Are you pleased with the athletes’ results?
-The guys performed rather well. They were well prepared and pleased us. To tell the truth, we didn’t expect it.
-What plans do you have before the European Championship?
-On March 18 we are leaving for Qatar to the World Cup. Armenia will be represented by Arthur Davtyan, Arthur Tovmasyan, Vahagn Davtyan and Harutyun Merdinyan. From March 28 we will spend a one week training camp in Georgia and from there 6 gymnasts, Arthur Davtyan, Arthur Tovmasyan, Vahagn Davtyan, Harutyun Merdinyan, Arthur Avetisyan and Vigen Khachatryan, will join the European Championship.
-Vahagn Davtyan had injured his shoulder. How did he perform?
-We had been recovering for a long time, but we were happy with his results.
-At the beginning of the championship Hakob Serobyan stressed that he would pay special attention to the young gymnasts. Did they live up your expectations?
-Yes, they did, we have several good guys five of which will participate in the training camp with adults in Georgia to get more experience and grow.
Sos Sargsyan added that at the European Championship Arthur Davtyan and Vigen Khachatryan will compete at all-around event and the rest 4 Armenian representatives will perform in separate apparatus events.
