The 24th Stepan Sargsyan Freestyle Wrestling Tournament came to an end in Vanadzor.
After the tournament Secretary General of the Wrestling Federation of Armenia Arayik Baghdadyan summed up it.
“This year we had rather strong participants. World and European champions took part in the tournament; by the way, both world champions lost and failed to win the tournament (refers to Russia’s representatives Bekkhan Goygereev and Khetag Tsabolov). Russia and Kazakhstan joined with big teams. I’m pleased with the tournament. It gave one more opportunity to young wrestlers to wrestle and get an experience. We had great expectations of Arsen Harutyunyan but his rival wasn’t a random wrestler, he was the world champion among juniors of last year. Arsen isn’t in a good shape yet after the injury. We hope he will fully recover until the World Championship. Next year the tournament will be held for the 25th, jubilee time. It is expected to have a high participation of strong wrestlers as it will be an Olympic year and the prize fund will be bigger. At the end I’d like to thank ANOC President Gagik Tsarukyan for providing the tournament’s prize fund this year, $24.000.” Baghdadyan said.
