Greco-Roman wrestlers started the struggle at the European Wrestling Championship in Bucharest, Romania. On the 5th competition day wrestlers of 55, 63, 77, 87 and130 kg entered the mat.

At 55 kg Rudik Mkrtchyan began from the qualification round where his opponent was 2018 world bronze medalist Georgian Nugzari Tsurtsumia. The bout was tense but the Armenia wrestler conceded 2:5. In the quarterfinals the Georgian wrestler lost to Azerbaijani Eldaniz Azizli and Mkrtchyan lost the chance to struggle for a medal.

At 63 kg Slavik Galstyan faced Norwegian Stig-Andre Berge in the qualification round and lost 2:3. Berge reached the final; therefore Slavik Galstyan has a chance to wrestle for a bronze medal. In the repechage bout his opponent will be Belarusian Maksim Nehoda.

At 77 kg Olympic silver medalist, world and European champion Arsen Julfalakyan won 5:3 Netherland’s Marcel Sterkenburg in the qualification round. In the 1/8 finals Arsen’s rival was Ronald Shwaz from Germany. Julfalakyan conceded 3:7 to the German wrestler but Arsen’s opponent reached the final and tomorrow Arsen will compete for bronze. In the repechage round he will meet Azerbaijani Elvin Mursaliyev.

In the qualification round of 87 kg world and European champion Maksim Manukyan celebrated a nice victory by fall over Heikki Herman Metsomaek from Finland. In the 1/8 finals he gained advantage over Romanian Aleksandru Karas ahead of time. In the quarterfinals Maksim’s opponent was Islam Abbasov from Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, the Armenian wrestler conceded 1:6 to him but as Abbasov qualified for the finals Manukyan can hope for a medal. He will spend the repechage bout with the winner of Denis Kudla (Germany) -David Chakvetadze (Russia) pair.

At 130 kg in the 1/8 finals David Hovasapyan wrestled against world reigning champion, Olympic bronze medalist Russian Sergey Semyonov and lost 0:5. In the semifinals Semyonov was defeated by Georgian Iakobi Kajaia and Ovasapyan dropped out of the further competition.
