The Judo European Championship has kicked off in Kazan, Russia.
On the first day of the competition Hovhannes Davtyan, Garik Harutyunyan (60kg), Ferdinant Karapetyan (66kg) and Zhanna Stankevich (52kg) competed.
Hovhannes Davtyan (60kg) won an Austrian judoka in the first bout, then gained advantage over Czech Pavel Petrikov but lost to Italian Elios Manzi in the quarter-finals. In the comforting bout the Armenian judoka defeated Jeroen Mooren of Netherlands then beating Turk Bekir Oslu in the fight for bronze.
Garik Harutyunyan, in the same weight class lost to Bekir Oslu from the first bout.
Ferdinant Karapetyan (66kg) defeated Azerbaijani Tarlan Karimov in the first bout but conceded the next bout to Belarusian Dmitri Shershanin and dropped out of the competition.
Zhanna Stankevich at 52kg lost from the first bout.
On April 22 Arsen Ghazaryan (73kg) and Andranik Chaparyan, Rafael Davtyan (81kg) will measure their strengths.
