Armenian weightlifting team member Andranik Karapetyan became a European champion and Tigran Martirosyan – a silver medalist.

10 athletes from Albania, Bulgaria, Germany, Romania, Poland, Spain and Armenia were taking part in the men’s 77kg weight class competition.

In the snatch the Armenian weightlifters began to perform when the others had already finished their performances. Tigran Martirosyan lifted only 160kg and won a small silver medal. Andranik Karapetyan lifted 165kg in the first approach, then 170kg and captured a small gold medal. In the third attempt Karapetyan failed to lift 174kg.

In the clean & jerk Andranik Karapetyan lifted 192kg first, then – 197kg but couldn’t overcome 200kg. Tigran Martirosyan lifted only 192kg and couldn’t afford 197kg. Scoring 367kg in the double-event Andranik Karapetyan became a European champion and Tigran Martirosyan conquered a silver medal in the double-event of 352kg.

On April 14 Aghasi Aghasyan (85kg, subgroup B) and Nazik Avdalyan (69kg, subgroup A) will continue the fight.
