FIDE has appointed Armenia’s representative, international arbiter Ashot Vardapetyan chief arbiter of the Chess World Cup which will be held in Russian Khanty-Mansiysk from September 9 to October 4.
Vardapetyan was also the chief arbiter of Viswanathan Anand vs Boris Gelfand (in 2012) and Viswanathan Anand vs Magnus Carlsen (in 2012) games for the world champion title.
Armenia will have 4 representatives at the Chess World Cup.
In the first round of the tournament, which will be held in a knock-out format, Levon Aronyan will compete with Egyptian Essam El-Gindy, Sergei Movsesyan’s opponent will be Russian Grigoriy Oparin, Robert Hovhannisyan will face Russian Anton Demchenko and Armenia’s current champion Arman Pashikyan - Alireza Firuzja.
