Armenia’s champions were crowned Hmayak Aghajanyan (57kg), Gevorg Tadevosyan (61kg), Ashot Velitsyan (65kg), Khachatur Papikyan (70kg), Suren Khachatryan (74kg), Razmik Poghosyan (86kg) and Shamir Atyan (97kg).
The head coach of Armenia’s freestyle wrestling team, Arayik Baghdadyan assessed young wrestlers’ performances as satisfactory. “This age group gives additional opportunity to young wrestlers to show their potential. The best athletes will join in the European Championship. The number of participants was so small that it was decided to hold a one-day tournament. It is, of course, very sad. We lack young wrestlers, growing good generation and the blame mainly lies with sports schools”, Baghdadyan said.
From December 12-26 the best wrestlers of the championship will have joint trainings with adults’ team in Tsakhkadzor. The Championship attended by 80 wrestlers was devoted to the memory of USSR’s sport master Gagik Arakelyan.
