Levon Aronyan has become the winner of the 2019 Grand Chess Tour in Saint Louise, USA.
Here the chess players competed in rapid and blitz chess. The last nine games of the blitz tournament were played yesterday.
In the first game Aronyan conceded to Sergey Karhjakin (Russia) with black pieces. The next game he won Azerbaijani Shakhriyar Mamedyarov with white pieces and after it he defeated Chinese Ding Liren with black pieces.
Aronyan drew the next three rounds with Fabiano Caruana, Yu Yangyi and Leinier Dominguez, then defeated Hungarian Richard Rapport with black pieces and tied a game with Magnus Carlsen. Before the last game Aronyan had 22 points, Yu Yangyi – 21 points, Vachier-Lagrave and Ding Liren – 20.5 points each.
Levon lost the last game to Vachier-Lagrave with white pieces while Yu Yangyi tied the game with Mamedyarov. Levon Aronyan gained 9 points in the blitz tournament and shared the 4-5th places with Carlsen while as a result of two tournaments he earned 22 points and was named the Saint Louise tournament winner . With this victory Aronyan earned $37 500.
