Freestyle wrestler Volodya Frangulyan (65 kg) became a silver medalist in the 23rd Outstanding Ukrainian Wrestlers and Coaches Memorial underway in Kiev.
In the final the Armenian wrestler competed against Ukraine’s Gor Ogannesyan and lost ahead of time, 0-11.
On the way to the final Volodya Frangulyan had won Turk Tolga Akyuz (2:0), Ukrainian Andrey Sviridin (2:2) and Belarusian Artsen Krauchanka (2:1).
Vaghinak Matevosyan (57 kg), Vaughan Kajoyan (74 kg), Hovhannes Mkhitaryan (86 kg), Sargis Hovsepyan (97 kg), Arman Mkrtchyan (97 kg) and Andranik Galstyan (125 kg) who lost their bouts had left for Kiev too with the Armenia freestyle wrestling team.
Vaghinak Matevosyan (57 kg) won 12:1 Belarusian Mashan Hasanov in the qualification round but lost the quarterfinal 3:8 to Georgian Lasha Lomtadze.
Varuzhan Kajoyan at 74 kg was defeated 3:4 by Ukrainian Denis Pavlov in the 1/8 finals.
Hovhannes Mkhitaryan at 86 kg started with a victory over Georgian Zaur Beradze (1:1) but lost the quarterfinal 6:9 to Moldavian Andrian Grosul.
Arman Mkrtchyan at 97 kg suffered defeat 4:0 by Ukrainian Artem Hashenko in the qualification round and Sargis Hovsepyan after a victorious bout against Ukrainian Lubomir Sagalyuk (5:0) lost to Georgian Zuriko Urtashvili in the quarterfinal.
Andranik Galstyan at 125 kg lost the qualification round 0:11 to Polish Robert Baran who has qualified for the final. On May 12 Andranik Galstyan will fight for a bronze medal.
The Armenia team has left for Kiev led by head coach Habetnak Kurghinyan. Team coach Edgar Yenokyan as well as judge Gevorg Harutyunyan have joined the team, too.
