Round 6 was played after a day off at the Grenke Сhess Сlassic continuing in Germany. Leading player of the Armenia chess team Levon Aronyan playing with white pieces tied the game with 14-year-old Vincent Keymer who had suffered defeats in the previous 4 games of 5 rounds.
The games Peter Svidler (Russia) vs Maxime Vachiev-Lagrave (France) and Francisco Vallejo (Spain) vs Fabiano Caruana (USA) were a draw too. Reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway) was stronger with black pieces than Georg Meier (Germany) while Viswanathan Anand (India) lost to Arkadij Naiditsch (Azerbaijan).
After the 6th round Levon Aronyan has 3,5 points and shares the 2-7 positions. The leader of the tournament is the first number of the FIDE rankings, Magnus Carlsen, with 4,5 points. In the previous 5 rounds the Armenian GM had shared points with Arkadij Naidich, Georg Meier, Francisco Vallejo and Maxime Vachiev-Lagrave, as well as had won Peter Svidler.
On April 27 Aronyan will compete with black pieces against Magnus Carlsen in round 7.
