The Armenian Artistic Gymnastics Championships kicked off The Armenian Artistic Gymnastics Championships kicked off at Albert Azaryan Olympic School on March 12 (photos).
Athletes from Yerevan, Gyumri and Etchmiadzin took part in the championship. The qualification round was held on the first day, as well as the winners of all-around event became known. Arthur Davtyan was named Armenia’s all-around champion. Vigen Khachatryan came second and Arthur Avetisyan became a bronze medalist. The head coach of the Armenian Artistic Gymnastics team, Hakob Serobyan, in an interview with reporters stressed the importance of young athletes’ participation in the championship.
“This championship is of a great importance for young gymnasts that’s why we allowed them to participate. Before the European Championship we want the young athletes to spend a joint training camp with adults in Tbilisi from where the adults will travel to the European Championship. It’s very important for the youth to join to this training camp as the first World Youth Championship in the history of the Artistic Gymnastics will be held this year”, said Hakob Serobyan.
The finals of various apparatus among men will be held on March 13. The Armenian Championship is attended by 34 men and 19 women gymnasts. All the best gymnasts are involved in the struggle. The women’s qualification round will be held at the Sports School of Gymnastics after Hrant Shahinyan on March 13 while the finals will take place the next day.
