The official website of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia continues the project, “Road to Rio”, before the start of the 31st Rio Summer Olympic Games where it will tell about the athletes representing Armenia at the Olympics, and their photos made by photographer Hakob Berberyan specially for the “Road to Rio” project.
The next hero of our project is weightlifter Arakel Mirzoyan. He was born in Ejmiatsin in 1989. He studied at the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture.
He started weightlifting at the age of 5. Arakel is a 2009 European champion. He continues his father’s, Olympic champion Ogsen Mirzoyan’s, job.
- What lucky mascot are you going to take with you to the Olympics?
-Yes, I have a mascot. It’s a gift from my fiancée, a silver necklace with the image of Our Lady. It is always with me during travelling, tournaments and everyday life.
-Whom would you like to see with you or among spectators?
-First of all, my family – my father, mother, sister and fiancée.
-Please describe the Olympic Games in three words.
-Peace, solidarity, glory and honor.
-Whom are you going to share your success with first?
-With the whole nation.
-How would you like to remember these Olympics?
-As happy and memorable.
