The official website of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia continues the project, “Road to Rio”, before the start of the 31st Rio Summer Olympic Games where it will tell about the athletes representing Armenia at the Olympics, and their photos made by photographer Hakob Berberyan specially for the “Road to Rio” project.
The next hero of our project is our only shooter at the Olympics, Hrach Babayan. Hrach was born in Yerevan in 1996 and now lives in the capital. He is a student of the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture. He is a Junior Olympics and World Youth Championship silver medalist. At the first European Games, Hrach set a European youth record.
At the interview as at any tournament Hrach came across as restrained and modest but stood out with a sharp sense of humor. During the photo session when Hrach was telling about himself, he spoke enthusiastically and proudly about his younger brother. Babayan is convinced that Hayk, his younger brother, will be more successful than he. We were charmed by his simplicity. When we asked what can gall him, he answered with a kind smile, “For example, the white shirt that I’m wearing.” Babayan is one of the promising shooters of the Armenian shooting.
-What mascot are you going to take with you to the Olympics?
- I wouldn’t call it a mascot, it’s the cross that I’ve received from the president of our federation, is always with me. It was given to me after my first serious victory.
-Whom would you like to see with you or among spectators?
-To tell the truth, in our sport the audience has a different effect. The less it is, the better for us. I don’t mind if they come with me, it is very pleasant, but without seeing my performances because the noise disturbs me.
-Please, describe the Olympic Games in three words.
-The first great sporting event for me, a big dream and a goal.
-Whom are you going to share your success first with?
-With my personal coach, Andranik Ayvazyan.
-How would you like to remember these Olympics?
-I’d like to remember them with my results and victory.
